The silver content value for old silver coins is worth more than their face value.
Based on a silver value of $17.37/ounce the following values would be true:
Nickel - $0.98
Dime - $1.26
Quarter - $3.14
Half dollar - $6.28
Silver dollar - $13.43
Bear in mind these are bullion prices and do not take into account the possible numismatic value of the coin. Should you find a really old coin you may want to check on it's collector value - some of the older coins and some of the not-so-old coins that have a low mintage can be highly desirable.
