Located off Interstate 35 between Austin and San Antonio, San Marcos is a terrific place to visit and vacation. The cold, clear San Marcos River rises from springs within the town. Great fishing here and at the nearby Blanco River. Family entertainment includes Aquarena Center where you can ride a glass bottom boat, go tubing on the San Marcos river (72° year round), visit Wonder World (only earthquake created cave open to the public) or do a little hunting during hunting season.
The downtown is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has gift shops, restaurants, bed & breakfast accommodations, and art galleries - all in a quaint setting. Shoppers are treated to the largest factory outlet complex in the state at the Prime Outlets and Tanager Outlet Center.
