Located on the Texas Gulf Coast, Galveston Island is reached by Interstate 45 or by ferry between Galveston and Port Bolivar (Texas 87). Galveston Island has over 30 miles of beach, many city parks (including some beach front 'pocket' parks), recreational centers, picnic areas plus more. Outdoor activities include swimming, deep sea fishing or pier fishing, water skiing, boating, and wildlife watching.
While in Galveston don't miss seeing the Railroad, Historical, Museums; taking a ride on the Colonel Excursion Boat; visiting the Yacht basin or some of the many beautiful old historical homes and buildings. (ashton Villa, Bishop's Palace, Fort Crockett, 1894 Opera House, Moody Mansion & Museum), and The Strand.)
Another must see is Moody Gardens - a 150+ acre phased project that includes Aquarium Pyramid, Discovery Pyramid, Rainforest Pyramid, IMAX Theatre, plus much more.
