Located in the northeastern section of the state west of Dallas, Ft. Worth is served by Interstate 20 and 35. Its location on the Chisholm Trail (cattle drives) was a major factor in Fort Worth emerging from a sleepy outpost to a bustling town. It retains the nickname 'Cowtown' still today. Even so, major industries such as Lockheed, American Airlines and Burlington Northern headquarter in Ft. Worth. It is also home to many museums plus seasonal cultural events.
Parks and surrounding lakes offer many opportunities for outdoor recreation.
Visitor Centers are located at 415 Throckmorton in the Sanger Bldg (Sundance Square) and in Stockyard National Historic District at 130 E. Exchange Ave. Hours vary.
