Established in 1872 Atlanta is located in the northeast part of the state just minutes from Louisiana and Arkansas. The city of Jefferson is to the southwest and Texarkana is located to the northeast. Atlanta is served by Interstate 59 and State Highway 77. Tours here include historic downtown plaza, Veterans Memorial Plaza, Texas and Pacific Railroad Depot and Museum and Atlanta Library with genealogy section.
Surrounding areas and lakes provide opportunities for bird watching, fishing, boating, hiking, and camping. The Atlanta State Park is located on the south shore of Lake Wright Patman about 14 miles to the northwest of the city.
